Wait. I do.
Sooo, I'm still stunned at the fact that within 3 months after I resigned my 4 years job, all these happened and my salary almost got doubled up.
For the longest time, I've always made career as my identity. It defines who I am, who I'm gonna be. And as you may or may not know, I previously worked as an Editor at a beauty media owned by the biggest beauty e-commerce in Indonesia. Beauty and Writing has always been what I do, what I know best, my comfort zone.
That, until one by one, my bosses and colleagues resigned. I started thinking of resignation as well. Not that it's new. I've always responded to job opportunity in LinkedIn from 2018. I've interviewed here and there (I might make a separate post about it?), but none of the offer came close with my expectation.
At the end of 2021, one of my resigned boss reached out to me about a job opportunity at her office. It sounds interesting, so I applied, did the job test, and ended up getting an offer. An offer better than what I've been offered from other companies so far. So, I took the offer and started the new job at the beginning of 2022.
Fast forward to March 2022, I no longer feel like my current office is the place for me to work for for various reasons. Luckily, I was approached by a beauty company back in February that is still going on in March. I was approached for two different role and I did two different job test as well (one associate, one senior associate), and they decided to move forward on the latter and gave me an offer.
As I am planning to resign before the offer even came, I set a pretty low expectation on the wage department. I expected a similar or even less number than my current salary for the offer from the beauty company. To my surprise, the number was quite a lot compared to my current salary!
Therefore, I have to note a few things as a personal reminder:
- My first job, I worked for 4 years with blood, sweat, and tears. I loved every part of it. I truly take full ownership of my work and company. I did more than I should. And my last salary (after 4 years and being in the senior position) is still less than the salary of my fresh graduate friend at my next company.
IYA. Jadi gaji gue sebagai senior setelah 4 tahun kerja dan berkontribusi banyak untuk perusahaan tetap lebih kecil dari gaji temen gue yang fresh graduate. It's a bitter truth that I learned only after I resigned.
When I was still working there, I honestly didn't complain much, because I know that I have received countless opportunity that I would've never gotten anywhere else. Also, I have the best team, best work, and it's very much my comfort zone.
But as time goes by, my needs shift. Although I can survive with that salary, I do realize that I need to grow out of my comfort zone. Especially after I got a better offer and benefits, which led me to resign. - My second job is quite far from my comfort zone. In fact, it revolves around social media–a role that I previously was offered and rejected in my previous company. So, it's kinda tough. However, I learned a lot as well, which I believe will be beneficial on my next career path. The pay and benefits are pretty good as well.
- My third job (which is my current job as I'm writing this) is a literal blessing. The opportunity came at the perfect time, the role sounds exactly what I wanted to do, and the pay + benefits are hella good.
Sooo, I'm still stunned at the fact that within 3 months after I resigned my 4 years job, all these happened and my salary almost got doubled up.
Kesimpulannya, sepertinya kalo mau cepet naik gaji emang harus pindah-pindah kerja, ya. HAHA. Nggak, deng. Bergantung kebutuhan dan kesempatan aja deh, pokoknya!
But sometimes, you really should close a door for another to open. So, when the time comes, brave yourself to make big decision and step out from your comfort zone :)
Cheers,
D
